Dr. Albelda is Director of the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center’s Thoracic Oncology Research Laboratory, as well as Associate Chief of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care. He is considered a specialist in the treatment of mesothelioma. His laboratory uses developments in the fields of molecular biology, immunotherapy and gene therapy to design new treatment strategies for lung cancer and thoracic malignancies such as mesothelioma.

Dr. Albelda received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed his residency and fellowship. The university’s cancer center was named one of the best in the country by U.S. News and World Report.

Dr. Albelda has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has been awarded the National Institutes of Health’s Physician-Scientist Award.
