Scott J. Swanson, MD
Dr. Swanson is Chief Surgical Officer and Director of Thoracic Oncology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Swanson received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed a residency in general surgery from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery from the same hospital.
Dr. Swanson is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery. His research interests include thoracic oncology, minimally invasive surgery, lung cancer, esophageal cancer and sarcoma. Dr. Swanson concentrates much of his efforts on improving minimally invasive surgery techniques. In particular, he specializes in video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). Using this procedure in surgery allows for fewer complications and a faster recovery time.
