W. Roy Smythe, MD, FACS
Dr. Smythe is a Professor of Surgery at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center, as well as a Medical Director at Scott & White Healthcare. He specializes in the treatment of mesothelioma, advanced lung cancer, benign lung disease, chest wall tumors and esophageal cancer.
Dr. Smythe received his medical degree from Texas A&M University. He completed residencies in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a research fellowship in thoracic and molecular oncology from the same university. He also completed a fellowship in clinical oncology at the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Smythe was named one of Castle Connolly’s Best Doctors In America from 2003-2008, and one of the Consumers Research Council’s Best Surgeons in America in 2007. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, and the American Society for Gene Therapy.
