Dr. McCachren is Director of Clinical Trials at the Thompson Cancer Survival Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. The founders of the Thompson Cancer Survival Center established the center with the goal of bringing together world renowned cancer specialists and innovative technology to facilitate the research and treatment of numerous types of cancer, including mesothelioma. Cancer patients at the center are supported by a team of specialists that includes a dietician, genetic counselor, physicist, pharmacist, therapist, technologist, oncology nurse, and social worker.  Dr. McCachren is a part of the Thompson Oncology Group, a part of the Thompson Cancer Survival Center, and he is considered a specialist in the treatment of mesothelioma. He also specializes in general oncology and hematology.

Dr. McCachren received his medical degree at Duke University, and completed his residency and fellowship at Duke University as well. He is board certified in hematology, internal medicine and medical oncology.

Dr. McCachren has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles which have been published in the American Journal of Clinical Oncology and Principles and Practice of Geriatric Medicine. He is a member of professional societies such as the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
